Provence is a charming region in the South of France made up of many hilltop villages, just a couple hours drive inland from the glitzy coastline of the more famous Côte d’Azur.
Because there are so many little towns to choose from, you really can’t go wrong here but I am happy to report this stunning piece of property checked all my boxes. Provencal charm, check. History, check. Amazing views, check.
Did I mention a pattern I am absolutely obsessed with?
Check!
We spent our first night in Avignon, due to its proximity to a major train station, before heading east into the Luberon valley, to the most charming guest house nestled at the tippy top of the old village of Ménerbes. Upon arrival right as the sun was ready to set and everything I had wished and waited for on this trip seemed to have magically come true.
L’Hôtel Particulier de Tingry, Pierres d’Histoire is perhaps the most unique accommodation I’ve experienced, being that it’s somewhere between airbnb and b&b status with only four guest rooms and no onsite staff.
Built in the 17th century as a summer place for members of the Laurent family (and at one point was a hiding spot for a prince) before being purchased and renovated by an American woman, of course, who left it as a place for artists to gather. Still to this day, artists are allowed access to the grounds, something we didn’t come across during our stay but worth mentioning for anyone interested in a stay themselves.
The house is centered right at the top of town in Ménerbes, walking distance to local shops, restaurants and an adorable little park. All with elevated views of the countryside and only about 15 minutes from Gordes, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Roussillon making for a nice home base as we explored other provencal towns. If you’re looking for more luxurious 5 star accommodations then may I suggest nearby La Bastide de Marie or La Bastide de Gordes.
And it’s now my goal in life to purchase this house.
I wish I was joking but sadly for Arthur I am not!
The parking wasn’t easy and the address a bit tricky to find on the map, but the house, ç’est magnifique!
The house opens to a lovely staircase leading to the guest rooms upstairs, while the ground floor boasts a small library, dining room, parlor room, family room and a slightly hidden kitchen oozing all the European charm this American girl was after! I would seriously consider coming back with a larger group and buying out the four rooms for us to bask in the views by the pool, host candlelit dinners by night and explore the nearby villages each and every morning!
Who knows, maybe I’d even give that La Cornue stove a whirl and whip up coq au vin!
Aside from the property grounds and kitchen envy, my heart skipped an actual beat upon entering our guest room.
I opened the door to a bright, feminine retreat, who’s yellow damask fabric wallpaper perfectly complimented the sunshine that poured through a deep green shuttered windows, singing directly into my stone cold LA heart!
I was ready to sing out the window to a nearby bird I was so happy.
In a fairytale of my own making I couldn’t help but jump for joy at the prospect of waking up in a bed who’s headboard matched the walls, a dream my home in Los Angeles will sadly never see thanks to my modern design obsessed husband.
And it’s no surprise my wardrobe felt quite welcome here too!
My tassel adored fan, which outside of being so befitting of the place, was actually quite useful given how warm the villages can get come summertime.
I highly recommend breathable linen fabrics, breezy long dresses, cotton skirts and flat sandals, loafers, slides given hardly any walking here is flat nor smooth!
And most certainly bring swimwear for those balmy afternoons when the sun is most strong, the pool chairs basically begging for a nice nap after a long dip!
Each morning we took our little coffee and pastries in the orangerie by the pool, a phrase I’d be happy to repeat the rest of my lifetime.
But until I can finagle a way to get Parker and the rest of our lives across the pond I will remain here in my heart for the rest of summers to come! xx
