Seaside At Seneca’s

January 11, 2023

Before my mother and I checked into our hotel in La Jolla, we decided to make a lunch stop further down south in San Diego’s Marina district at Seneca’s Trattoria. Inspired by the sea and life on large ships this glamorous and bustling restaurant serving my absolute favorite Italian faire!

Located on the 19th floor of the Intercontinental Hotel we were greeted by a nature laden scene immediately upon arrival leaving my mother and I blown away by the detail!

That was before we WALKED IN AND SAID wow!

To say this space is well designed by AvroKo would be a complete and utter understatement. The amount of detail in every custom chair and table alone was so well thought out and despite the opulence in each design feature the space maintained an elegant cohesiveness.

I imagine this to be the one and only cruise ship I’d step foot onto without hesitation as I immediately felt the seaside glamour missing in most nautical themed spaces. Especially all the shell details, I wanted to take them home!

As if it couldn’t get any better after sitting down with a coffee, the menu not only had my beloved arancini (fried, cheesy rice balls) but the cacio e pepe was made with bucatini noodles. For anyone who’s confused, cacio e pepe is essentially the mac and cheese of Italy, spaghetti made with pecorino cheese and pepper. It’s simple and delicious, I always request it at Italian restaurants but it’s barely on the menu. And to make it with bucatini noodles, basically a thicker spaghetti, is just the ticket to my soul!

Since we had a drive ahead if us I wasn’t able to indulge in sampling the attractive cocktail menu on the even more attractive rooftop bar but this place could just give me enough reason to make the two hour drive again!

Well that and the shell adorned hostess stand!
