It’s a small space but extremely useful. At first we considered mirroring the back wall, but I’m glad we didn’t since I’d rather find a decorative one to hang in the future. We used the leftover Calcutta marble slab from our fireplace as the surface and it still catches my eye every time.
Now it’s become my little pretty shelf where I set my morning latte while getting ready, glass of pink champs before going out (on WALKS) and where I throw my bag, sunnies and phone when I get home. So styling it meant keeping some open space, for whatever random items happen to appear on top.
And recently, something super chic did in fact appear, from the artist behind the beautiful illustrations at Olive & Orange, who sent me the most thoughtful gift. An illustrated assortment of my favorite things I’ve photographed, including my beloved straw seashell shaped bag (on major sale now), my mini ginger jar with peonies, the spritz I sipped on my patio in lieu of a summer on Capri, the linguine with clams I served in a shell, the sunglasses I wore to La Fontelina Beach Club.
Having something personalized is always preferred and my top choice for gifts I give and gifts I receive. The illustrations were beautifully done and now will always serve as a reminder that good things can still happen during the summer of COVID-19! I linked a few other favorites from her shop, but of course my top choice is always something custom.
For the rest of the small space I had my Slim Aarons photograph my sister got for me framed, depicting the chicest pool at the chicest hotel in the South of France that actually lives up to the hype and is definitely worth a visit in Antibes. Also, my favorite style books, a ginger jar with the double happiness sign on it, the best smelling candle and the small sweet grass basket I bought in Charleston.
The cherry on top was of course the absolutely lovely floral arrangement our wedding florist sent us now almost a year after our wedding. She of course made the most beautiful grouping of pale pinks and variations of purple, just another reminder of how lucky I was to find her for our wedding.
It’s the small things like decorating a nook in our bedroom that keep me sane during these uncertain times and receiving something made specially for me is truly like winning the lottery, another reminder that we really are all in this together.
