Eloise at The Plaza

Here’s a big secret about me… this was my FIRST time in the big apple, New York City! I know, it’s shocking and terribly embarrassing, but it’s true. Fortunately, I waited until my 25th birthday and made it an awesome trip nonetheless! Here are some of the highlights.

FIRST and foremost, when starting to plan this ambitious two and a half day trip I had one thing on the very top of my list. And that was to see Eloise at the Plaza! Like many other young girls I grew up adoring her spunky, stubborn, take-charge character. Some traits not many girl characters embraced. I always saw a little bit of myself in her and for anyone who knows me well, it’s fairly evident. Aside from Eloise, the Plaza Hotel is beautiful and staying there is now a new item on my bucket list.

Ladurée, Upper East Side
Despite the brand new and gorgeous looking Ladurée Soho, I am glad I made it to the original location on the Upper East Side. Being that it was a short trip and I really wanted breakfast in bed on my actual birthday, I chose to make a quick and ultra glamourous stop in this perfectly pretty little shop.  If only I had my poodle Caillou with me, it would have made this scene all too darling!

Next stop, afternoon Tea at Bergdorf Goodman! My photo caption says “fashion tea” and for good reason. Imagine the crowd that stops in after a long day of shopping, either for themselves or private clients. Nevertheless everyone was dressed to the nines, it was like seeing the models in Vogue come to life and walk around. The store and tea room itself deserve a post of their own (coming soon).
Fashion Tea at Bergdorf Goodman
I have decided I LOVE tea time. No wonder I spent so much time as a young child mimicking the routine. I think my next party will be a tea party (cute little sandwiches and desserts hello?) The best part about tea time is that tea is healthy (right?) and you can try a bunch of options without committing and getting too full. It’s the chicest sample sale I have seen; sorry had to make the joke!
Museum of Modern Art
My love for art, especially Van Gogh, lead me to do the most efficient visit to the Museum of Modern Art, while my friends went to find some New York Pizza. There were so many wonderful works new to me like the one pictured above (unfortunately I didn’t write down the name) as well as a bunch of paintings I have always known about and even some I have copies of, but that were wonderful to see in person for the first time like, Van Gogh’s Starry Night, Andy Warhol’s Gold Marilyn Monroe, Salvador Dal’s The Persistence of Memory, Claude Monet’s Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond, and Henri Rousseau’s The Sleeping Gypsy.

More to come from NY,
Xx, Monica!
