THE “M” LIST: OCTOBER

1. Host my high school friends for our annual #ChiGirlsinLA

Every year my friends from high school come out to Los Angeles for some quality girl time and I am SO EXCITED to have them back in town! We don’t all see each other much during the year but once reunited, it’s as if we are right back where we started; sans the ridiculous highlights and our cheerleading uniforms. It appears some of the best friendships require the least amount of maintenance and yield the biggest rewards. And it just so happens they are coming the same weekend as my favorite day in Los Angeles, which leads me to…

2. The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic

I am so excited to attend for the fourth year in a row (see last year’s here) this time with all my best high school friends who will be visiting from Chicago. I already have a dress and I am so excited to picnic on the lawn and relax with a nice glass of champs. It’s the one day in Los Angeles where the men dress in bright, preppy, summery-er (I made that up) outfits and you can see a full outfit in detail. It’s one of the few reasons to really get dressed as you would on the East coast or in the South, considering this is Los Angeles where ripped jeans are considered fashionable. It’s also just a glamorous way of getting buzzed before 5 o’clock. Responsibly, of course.

3. Make some festive Fall treats #Domestic

The fall season has me, and every other basic girl, craving the infamous pumpkin spice latte. But after reading way too many articles (thanks Facebook) about all the horrible, non-pumpkin ingredients in the Starbucks version, I’ve decided to take the road less traveled and try making one at home. I found a few good recipes on Pinterest, a paleo version, non-dairy and full out vegan recipe. I am also excited to try a festive pumpkin spice popcorn snack and these AMAZING vegan peanut butter cups that my friend got me addicted to. I honestly was shocked to find out they were vegan and also require no baking!

4. Go apple picking, paint a pumpkin like a ginger jar, watch Hocus Pocus…

You know, all the typical holiday festivities. Even though its 100+ degrees here in LA I am still determined to find the best pumpkin and drink some hot apple cider! I’ve seen these adorable little chinoiserie blue and white painted pumpkins before and I am dying to attempt making one myself. I’d also like to watch all my favorite Halloween movies, Halloweentown, The Nightmare before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, Double Double Toil and Trouble, to name a few. It’s nice to know that despite the lack of changing leaves and Fall weather, I can still find small ways of celebrating the seasons, even if we have to serve that apple cider on ice.

5. Re-read Harry Potter

I have been meaning to do this for a couple of years and recently heard a podcast about how re-reading the books we loved as children can create a whole new appreciation and understanding for some of most beloved childhood stories. I tend to forget authors of children’s books are also adults and often do a great job of writing for parents too. Just like some of the lines in kids’ movies, the themes that fall flat for the little ones, bring the story to a new light for us big kids.

Hope you enjoyed my “M” List! Thanks so much for reading,

Happy October!
