A VERY HAPPY HALF BIRTHDAY!

[bigletter]Yes, I’m officially one of those moms. You know, the kind who celebrate half-birthdays, insist on matching their kiddos, essentially relive their own childhood through the lens of her kids. All good things I used to smirk at in my younger years, now things that I feel serve as the golden prize after a long day. Our kiddos don’t define us and I’m the first to support any and all efforts to allow them independence and space from the wishes we want them to fulfill for us, the burden of our belief in them, the shadows of our own trauma. But there is most certainly something to be said for having a bit of fun with the fast approaching ages and stages we are constantly navigating as we watch these little ones grow up and out. And so I’m holding onto all opportunities to act as creative director here while I can, before the word “no” finds a way out of this little one’s lips! And six months with baby Parker is quite a fabulous reason to do so![/bigletter]

They say the days are long and the years are short and they are so right. I haven’t even made it one year yet and I’m already jumping for joy at the fact that we made it here, with a healthy little chunk of love weighing 18 pounds and counting. He’s been sleeping the night in his crib, eating solids, eagerly attempting to crawl, sitting up on his own, babbling stories and most importantly smiling when I enter the room.

But aside from hitting some big baby milestones this little man has encouraged so many new habits in me. Six months into becoming a mama has been a study in patience and hopefully it pays off seeing how nicely our little man did while being celebrated. Sitting patiently in his highchair at the head of the table, eyes sharply observing each and every move and admiring the darling tablescape his mommy made specially for him!

My goal was to make it bright and meaningful for the ones around, hence swapping out the usual name adorned place cards for guests’ pictures with the man of the hour. Finding a second use for all the adorable month cards we’ve used so far. Baby sized party hats, half cut cupcakes and napkins resembling his first toy car that he’s come to love moving around on the ground. The decor was simple, the smiles spectacular. All in all, great practice for this little love bug of mine and yet another fond memory captured in time that has already passed away so fast as he’s 7 months now as I finally get this post out to you all! Xx
