SPOOKY PASTELS: A CHIC-O-WEEN TABLESCAPE

[bigletter]BOO! Well have I got another well appointed table for you… Best of all, it doesn’t include the eerie shade of orange we see blasted around this time of year. Just as the Sanderson sisters fought to keep their youth, I’m fighting to keep my precious summer pastels, as pumpkin orange is just as horrifying these days as are frown lines on the streets of Beverly Hills.

Feast your eyes, as there shall be only smiles from this point on!

Alas, all my attempts at true CHIC-O-WEEN have proven worthy over the last few years. Let’s be honest, this isn’t the easiest holiday for an aesthetic enthusiast to embrace, one that is of course known for being grim and gory, not gorg and glam. We’ve got smoke and spider webs, tricks and treats, not exactly sure where the champs and charcuterie fit in but y’all know me![/bigletter]

Halloween means a lot more this year with bèbè as I am getting to relive every childhood memory I cherish again through him. Of course he won’t remember the several costumes I intend to dress him up with or his first pumpkin patch adventure but I will! And I am acutely aware that my creative input in Halloween moving forward is on countdown as I am sure Parker will have more and more of a say about how we celebrate and what themes we indulge in as he gets bigger.

But alas this never really was my holiday anyway, growing up it was always about my sister’s birthday and so ultimately it all centered around her and those beloved candy apples I don’t mind myself, hence why they earned themselves a seat here at the table for the lady of the month herself who happened to be in town this very evening.

So I managed the smoke and spider webs thanks to a few cotton balls spread thin across my floral arrangements and dry ice pouring out of the most gourdgeous (see what I did there) sage green pumpkin.

Okay so moment of truth here, I did use dry ice and it did spread smoke, however, not the smoke you see here in the pictures as I missed the big point of adding warm water in the plastic container to create the big effect! It was heartbreaking because I was so excited to finally try this dry ice trick especially after finding such a gem of a pumpkin in the perfect shade of sage green with all it’s bumps and other wicked imperfections! So full disclosure, the smoke appeared but not as smokey as I edited it to in these photos you see!

But back to the tablescape.

I managed to swap out orange for a lovely shade of green and brighten the space with colorful florals and candy. As always place cards are as important to Sutton Sracke as a candlelit table is to moi so I used miniature skeletons to hold little scraps of paper adorning each guests name.

It was one of the simplest tables I’ve created in a long time but yielded the most beautiful setting to enjoy with family.

And the pastel ghosts too.
