[bigletter]At 9 months pregnant {and even 7 weeks postpartum} I have had only two style mantras: loungewear or the garden dress. There just isn’t anything in between. Of course I’ve bought a pair of maternity jeans and black coated pants which are great but just don’t cut it when it comes to comfort. And I have the same feeling now in my fourth trimester as I’d imagine many non-expecting ladies do too for the summer season.

And of course if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that comfort remains king![/bigletter]

I’ll admit, it took me some time to get into the idea of the longer dress, given I am petite and most maxi dresses need alterations and tend to overwhelm me with too much fabric and not enough structure. However, these dresses have been perfected lately with most silhouettes offering more shape and the increase in midi length options resolves my need for constant tailoring!

Last summer the garden dress really started to show up everywhere, given we couldn’t really leave our yards, patios and parks. I love them because they are feminine and typically made with an easy material, one that can go from the market, to lunch, to lounge, to nap. In fact, my favorite of them all is perfectly titled the nap dress and is by far the best of the best when it comes to the garden dress. They are comfortable, simple and chic whether dressed up with heels or down with flats. It’s essentially the quickest way to look put together and remain relaxed at the same time, perhaps one of the most practical fashion trends I’ve seen lately.

With my former bump and now postpartum body there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that the garden dress is here to stay for summer and well into fall.

Who knows if I’ll ever get back to real pants after 2020!

So I’ve rounded up a bunch of my favorite picks for your enjoyment and summer wardrobe, hopefully beyond just the backyard! Xx
