[bigletter]Afternoon, the time of day winter seems to steal away from us with its shorter hours of sunshine and chilly early evenings. Even in sunny Los Angeles, we too pay the daily toll of 5 o’clock darkness between the months of October and March, shifting the entire narrative of time. But alas, we are back to longer, warmer, brighter afternoons culminating in a more sensical end of day sunset at 7 o’clock. It’s quite the seasonal shift and this past weekend I couldn’t help but fully bask in it with some of my favorite things; chic loungewear and brie cheese to be exact.[/bigletter]

After seeing the beautiful light trickle on in Sunday afternoon I figured I’d throw on something chic and simple and enjoy the fresh air on my patio. Only at thirty-two weeks pregnant my style options for that are somewhat limited, as are the few lazy afternoons I have left!

The pandemic has given us many struggles, but one upside has been the unbeatable acceptance towards more comfortable daily wears. Living in sweats and leggings has been a blessing, however, it still feels good to get all dressed up here and there. Wearing denim all day while working from home will never be my style, but fortunately the best solution possible has been created, the LAKE patio dress.

Known for their perfectly yummy, hard to change out of in the morning pajamas, LAKE is one of my favorite cozy brands. However, about three months into the pandemic I believe it became a bit less acceptable to show up to zoom meetings in full on sleepwear, so I feel fortunate for the great summer shift towards the relaxed, yet incredibly stylish day dress.

So I threw on my new patio dress and headed straight for my patio as indicated! I set the spread right as the afternoon light settled onto our outdoor space, a quick mix of a fresh blackberries, creamy brie (fine for those expecting when pasteurized), a French baguette, some candied peanuts, raw honeycomb and jam. A nice little moment for my husband and I to enjoy, little furry babies in tow, eagerly awaiting a chance to snag a quick side nibble or confidently take one big unsolicited lick off our plate!

It was a nice escape from our Sunday chores getting the house ready for baby and an incredibly welcomed one. As someone who sings praises for self-care to friends and clients I don’t always live my mantra. Life will always be busy but an afternoon out here is most certainly worth a few dirty dishes and four emails that can wait, right? We spent some time enjoying before heading back inside to finish unpacking the several million amazon deliveries at our doorstep, full of baby stuff I barely understand the point of but per my research would be “helpful”.

Whether the start of any new week or adventure we can only prepare for the worst and hope for the best- perhaps I’ll add acknowledge the beauty to that list?

Well I think this Sunday we did just that.

And as for my new dress, I haven’t yet moved out of it quite yet, as I’ve been living in it everywhere ever since! Errand running, organizing baby stuff, working at my computer, walking the dogs; the list goes on and on. If this past year at home has taught us anything it’s that being able to go from cozy to productive in several seconds is key, which I’d imagine will also be true after bringing home my baby, in addition to a wardrobe that accommodates breast-feeding and I assume the not-so-occasional spills onto mom, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves!

For now, we’ll keep this one in the category of perfect patio-sun filled afternoon- errand running -but anytime really-dress of my dreams.
