NEW YEAR’S EVE (NYE) PARTY AT HOME

[bigletter]2020, we are ready for you to be over. Of course I have to shot out some of the great things that DID happen this year including, but not limited to, our mama and baby pair of pups, launching my own private practice, my mother’s move three blocks away, the election of the first Black woman as Vice President, our condo finally becoming fully livable and endless opportunities for chic picnics outside.[/bigletter]

Aside from the many blessings this year I think we are all more than ready for a fresh start. My hopes aren’t exactly high, given the bar is actually quite low, so 2021 please PLEASE just be a tad better than your predecessor. I have never been a big New Year’s resolution maker but if I’ve learned anything from 2020 it’s to really appreciate my home, my family and my health. With that said, home was of course the obvious choice to celebrate, on a smaller, but just as fabulous of scale.

So since we were going causal I decided to wear pajamas, giving me the perfect opportunity to splurge on the chicest set which I have been lusting over for quite some time now. Sleeper makes them, but unfortunately this blue and pink color combo I’d been dreaming of was out of stock, however, I was lucky enough to find them on Poshmark.

So my theme was centered around my ensemble, as most do. Pastels at brunch became my inspiration. So I sourced some fun party tools akin to any New Year’s celebration like party horns, balloons, confetti, festive drink stirrers and tons of tinsel. All the fun stuff laid out in a perfect mess, somewhat representative of the times as I’d like to see them!

A champagne tower was a given, the perfect pink peonies were available at Whole Foods by sheer luck.

And I couldn’t help using something sweet to further convey my message to 2020.

I indulged in a small serving of some nice caviar and champagne, the perfect pairing for just us two, served with creme fraiche and potato chips. As Patricia Altschul said in a recent episode of Southern Charm, eating caviar on a blini was no longer in vogue and I must agree it was way better than a boring pancake!

As a small reminder, always use a mother of pearl material with caviar so you don’t ruin any of the flavor with metal.

Whether or not we will be able to celebrate with our parents is still up in the air right now but either way I just feel so fortunate to have my husband and little pups around to keep me company during these trying times I our country right now. Of all the things I believed could happen this year, a pandemic was clearly not one of them, but I am happy to report many of the things I had hoped for have come to fruition in vastly different ways than I had imagined, restoring my faith that in the end everything can and will be okay.

Here’s to 2021.
