To be honest, I wasn’t really a fan of Monte Carlo. There were so many people elbowing to catch a glance of a celebrity kid driving a flashy sports car in a ridiculous shade of yellow. It was obnoxious and tacky in my opinion. But I will say, I was thoroughly obsessed with what I found just west, in Monaco-Ville, the old town Monaco. This charming little village is covered in pastel hues and beautiful little shops, churches and restaurants. Strolling around town is a perfect way to spend an afternoon and escape the hoopla of the rest of the small country. We didn’t spend much time here, but we did spend our time well, sharing a bottle (or two) of red wine and a basket of delicious french fries at a little street cafe. Strolling the little markers for fresh fruit and trinkets to take home, before a wonderful dinner at La Montgolfiere, a gastronomy restaurant run by the cutest couple serving yummy food. Our meal tasted like a combination of the chef’s (and my own) favorite cuisines, Italian and Japanese. After dinner, we saw fireworks randomly while walking back to catch the train back to Nice. It was a really lovely way to spend an afternoon and evening! Enjoy!
