THE AUTUMN EDIT

[bigletter]While Spring boasts the beauty of becoming, Autumn is the fairytale of Fall-ing back.

And what a lovely time to do just that. I don’t know about you but after almost two years now of pandemic woes I am ready to go back. Back to life pre-covid, but more realistically back to the comfort of the scripted season that starts with Fall. When all our worries get channeled into the familiar pattern of the leaves changing, our layers thickening and an opportunity to redo the holidays in a more mindful, more humble or even more fabulous way. If we hold good memories around this time, great. And if we don’t, awesome. Here’s a chance to make it better. And if we’ve never experienced them before, like my little bundle of love that came in May, well then we are all in for a real treat, showing him through my own eyes the magic that is Fall.[/bigletter]

No matter how hard this time of year can be, I’m here to tell you there is something worth redeeming. Just like the first day of school, the months of September through January present a lot of the same structure but with the choice to learn more, another whole year later, with more gusto and practice. Perhaps we’ve always wanted to raise our hand in class, invite the popular kid for a play date, rise above that bully living rent free in our mind. Well here’s the chance my friend.

And if you aren’t ready to make monumental change, that’s okay too. Let the leisure of strolling through a crisp afternoon or indulging in a warm drink each morning wrapped in a cozy sweater while the AC is on blast be your guide for these next few months. Bask in the glory of having some semblance of what comes next, be grateful for the routine of pumpkin spice everything, the “sweater weather” caption and Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas song on repeat.

Because no matter who or where you are, you too enjoy the comfort of knowing what is to come. That’s why humans created holidays, to remind us that no matter how far we travel near and wide, we all want to be home for Christmas. We all want to belong somewhere, together, preferably in the English countryside by a warm fire and a cup of hot cocoa.

We all want to create that magic to return to.

And we are all deserving of it.

Enjoy.
